Kimmie "Oba" Tomi Maiden, 78, of Evansville, passed away peacefully Monday, July 27, 2015, at her home surrounded by the family to whom she dedicated her life.
She was born December 17, 1936, in Okinawa, Japan, where she met her late husband, Donald Maiden, Command Sergeant Major, US Army. She eventually moved to Indianapolis, IN, where she raised her two daughters, Cindy Maiden Basinski and Catherine Maiden Lee. Kimmie was a tailor of men's suits for many years until she retired to move to Evansville to help raise her precious grandchildren, Lauren, Chris, and Rachel. She enjoyed traditional Japanese dancing and was an active member of the Minyo Club of Indianapolis until she was diagnosed with cancer. Kimmie developed close friendships in Indianapolis and Evansville that she treasured until her death. She loved cooking and doing anything to help raise and care for her grandchildren. She cherished the years her grandchildren attended Holy Rosary School in Evansville and was fond of the wonderful teachers and classmates of her grandchildren.
Kimmie is survived by her daughters, Cindy and Cathy; son-in-law, Steve; and seven grandchildren.
There will be a prayer service for Kimmie at the home of Steve and Cindy Basinski on Sunday, August 2, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. Friends and family are welcome to join this celebration of Kimmie's life.
